Light Years Away
This is an original song recorded in January 2009. This is a brand new video with an HD remaster of the audio and using public domain video as follows: The concept of writing a song about the feeling of freedom to explore I had as a child and the state of childhood today in the digital information age (with constant child monitoring and over scheduling of children’s time so they have no free time to explore on their own) weighed heavy on my mind. So I wanted to express my feelings on the subject with this song. I also wanted to make a video that was a little more interesting than just watching me play the song so I searched long and hard for appropriate public domain material to use for this. One more thing. As I finished making this I heard of Michael Jackson’s death and a sadness came over me. Michael Jackson had the soul of a child always and never struck me as being really a happy person in adulthood. Michael Jackson once said he was robbed of his childhood. I suppose that’s why he strived to re-capture childhood later in adult life. RIP Michael Jackson. The world will surely miss you. Credits: The video of children playing is from the short film made in 1942 called Child Went Forth. The video of children riding bicycles is from a bicycle safety film called Bicycle Today Automobile Tomorrow by Sid Davis filmed in Los Angeles circa the late 1960s.
